Hey there! Welcome to the home of JFS Agri! JFS is focused on the Research and Development of novel AgTech solutions, and doing so in a way that will be as financially and technologically accessible as possible to 'makers'. Originally started with the intent of leveraging some of our early IP and going the 'traditional' start-up route, but along the way realized that sharing designs freely and, hopefully, collaborating with others that are interested in Open Source R&D (not sure that's actually thing, but I think it should be!) I'm consistently amazed by the creativity, capability, and enthusiasm in the maker/tinkerer/builder community, and I can't wait to see how "hobbyists" will innovate the way the world eats.
Currently we are working on a range of AgTech projects ranging from simulation tools for combining plant growth models and optics models for maximizing the lighting efficiency of indoor agriculture systems, to designing and building testbed systems to validate/inform these simulations and collect mounds of additional data in the process. The work done to date was by a small group, and without consideration for these projects being accessible to makers and the like...and also 'documentation' hasn't exactly been....a priority... BUT that is changing! Newer hardware designs are very much focusing on Design For (Home) Manufacturing. A recent example of this that I'm quite pleased with at present is the Precision Dosing Pump, shown below. Assembled from 3d printed parts and low-cost, off-the-shelf components, the pump provides sufficient control over volumetric dispensing for automating the mixing and distribution of hydroponic nutrient concentrates.
But while it will take a little time to get the larger projects accessible, I will also be sharing info on all of the other various builds that I find myself playing with day-to-day under "BubsBuilds" Projects (and you may see another name or two pop up with some builds of their own, but we shall see :) ). Oh, and almost forgot, howdy, I'm Bubs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . I'm the one writing the vast majority of what you'll see here, at least until ChatGPT can finally master the unique and endearing writing style you've grown to love these last few paragraphs. If you'd like to learn a little more about me, tough s***. Ok, if you insist, you can find a short bit-o-bio here, or can see some of my earliest tinkerings in indoor agri here.
More to come! And if you are just too intrigued to wait, please don't hesitate to reach out to
